A Bug Deal Magic Iris Card

You are not going to believe this, but this card was super easy to make because I cheated.

I used the Magic Iris Die to create the interactive element of the card. You can see how here:

And here is another more in depth tutorial on how to put these types of cards together:

How did I cheat? I stamped the leaves from A Bug Deal Stamp Set on different shades of green cardstock (36 leaves were used to fill the outside ring of the Iris) and ran it through my Scan-n- Cut. I do not have the coordinating die for this stamp set, so I used my electronic cutter. The only thing I colored were the cute little critters.

The entire card came together in about 30 minutes! I still use my thin cut dies, but I must confess that with the Scan-n-Cut they are no longer a need. It is the best addition to my craft room I have made this decade!

Bun Intended ATC Set

I have always had a thing for creating hair in art. I like to shade it, color it, high light it and glitter it up. That probably is why I am obsessed with these Bun images from Ink Road Stamps. So far there are four available.

I created two different kinds of backgrounds for these four ATCs. The first two are created with Colorburst.

The last two I created using Colorburst and alcohol ink on Rinea Foiled Paper. I don’t know what have me the idea to try these two mediums together — much less on Rinea foiled paper. I am glad I did because it turned out amazing!

I have a video tutorial on how to color in these images here. The cute little bows are actually wee little resin pieces from The Ink Road Stamps. I thought they were perfect as embellishments for the buns.

How to Stretch a Bible Art Stamp Set

If I can’t use a product more than one way chances are I am just not going to keep it. That is one thing I like about stamps — they can be used a ton of different ways. Joy Clair has an extensive collection of Bible Art stamps that I adore. However, I like to use them in different ways as to get the most bang for my buck.

Rainbows

I always start first with the stamps in my Bible and then I create something else with the same set. For this set it was cards!

Something Patriotic

When I first saw this stamp set I did not think of the Armor of God like I should have. I thought of the Army, so I created a couple Patriotic Cards.

Not Really For the Bible

Than there are those sets that are not intended for Bible art. This particular set is probably the farthest thing most people would want to include in their Bible because it is tattoo art, but I like to create the unexpected. I decided on ATC cards for this set.

At the end of the day ALL things are used for His glory, so just pull out your Bible and start creating ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s Hear It For the Critters!

Close to My Heart came out with an adorable pet line last season. I normally do not purchase kits because I have a slew of products, but my pet paper supply is low. You don’t have to twist my arm to get me to make a purchase of cute whimsical brightly colored cats and dogs!

Krypto Layout

Sadly I only created one layout with the paper and stamp set because I do not have many non scrapped pictures of my boy!

Cards!

I was not done playing with this fun line yet, so I made some cards.

A lot of these were made with the stickers in the pack. I am not a sticker fan. In fact, I normally don’t like them. I think they are cheesy, but these worked great for this set! There is a childlike whimsy to this line and that is why the stickers work!

The cat cards were entirely made from the stickers in the kit. I bought the dog stamp set so I was able to utilize some of those on the following cards.

BUT!!!

These are my favorite pet cards I have ever made. Sadly, they are sympathy. I made them from my heart though and it is just a small thing I can send to someone that has had to lose their fur baby.

Close to My Heart still has the stamps and dies I used to create this last set of cards. You can find them here.

So, I want to know — dogs or cats? Do you have a preference?

It’s National Card Making Day!

I am super excited about today — National Card Making Day! Joy Clair Stamps have come up with three fantastic challenges. The main one is all about breaking the rules. We all have a set of rules that we follow when we craft. We may not even know that we have a set of them because we are so used to just doing what we do.

The Rule

Challenge 3https://joyclair.typepad.com/blog/2019/10/world-card-making-day-2019-with-joy-clair-challenge-3.html

My rule I am breaking for this challenge is to make an all white card. I am a bright colorful artist. The most incomprehensible thing I can do is take all color away — which is exactly why I decided to embrace it.

To keep the card from being dull and boring I used several different textures all in white. One of the substrates looks pink in this photo, but it is not. It is a reflective surface that caught something red in the area I was photographing, thus turning it pink. I embossed the sentiment from this stamp set on vellum to make it the focal point.

The pearl and white bow are the perfect finishing touches to this all white card.

Now it is your turn! What will you create?

National Coffee Day Blog Hop

Today is a wonderful day — a day to drink coffee! Any excuse to drink coffee is a good reason, right? In celebration of National Coffee Day the Joy Clair Designers have gotten together to host a wonderful hop for you revolving around coffee. Here is my card I created for this glorious day!

How To Create It

I used three Joy Clair Stamp Sets to create this card. I first embossed the Wood Background stamp on my cad base with copper embossing powder and misted it with Antique Linen Distress Ink Spray. To create the tag I used the same method with Broken Brick Background. The title, coffee cup and coffee bean strip were stamped from the Coffee Love set.

FaBOOlous!

This sweet little witch is perfect flying through a night sky. I knew I had to have her and the coordinating dies from Close to my Heart! The background was originally created on YouTube for a Northern Lights themed card. However, it works perfectly for Halloween!

How To Make It!

This card came together fast because I had the background done! You can see how to create your own sky or galaxy background here:

I wanted to replicate the moon and have a sentiment on the card, but knew there was not enough room. I combined the two on a yellow flat cardstock that I die cut into a circle. To keep it Halloween and sweet I opted for Purple Crush ink for the sentiment. I used pop dots on the witch and added a few Glitter Drops by Tonic in Purple rain o finish it off!

So Sketchy!

It’s my favorite time of the month — HOP TIME! For this hop the Rita Barakat design team has teamed up with Finder’ Keepers and 3L Scrapbook Adhesive. Both companies sent us a wonderful selection of products. I used mine on my first paper crafting love — Scrapbooking. Make sure you check out the rest of the hop! The list is at the bottom ๐Ÿ™‚

A Nod to the Past

Back in 2005 I had lost my passion for scrap booking. I went on a hunt to find something to spark my creativity and found Scrap Goods. It was a subscription kit in which each month a box full of supplies and a lesson on a new technique. There also was an amazing creative and caring online forum that was my first experience with social media. If it wasn’t for that club I truly don’t know where I would be today. Sadly, they went out of business when the economy started to dive. In it’s honor I created a kit with the new supplies sent by Finder’s Keepers and 3L Adhesive along with stuff from my stash.

What is In It

Here is a video of what is in my kit along with a technique tutorial and samples!

The Sketch Challenge

As promised in the video here is the sketch for you:

Interpret this any way you want. Look at it like a guide to help spark your creativity. Maybe you are not a scrap booker. Maybe you are a card or mixed media artist — use it in your art form.

This is what I did with it:

Make sure you upload your creation to Instagram tagging Betz Golden. I want to see it. If your account is public, I will share it too!

Layouts

Here are the rest of the layouts I created and the TN for my sketches!

You are Mermazing!

Temperatures should be warming up soon and I am dreaming of summer! In anticipation of warmer months I created a sweet little Mermaid card to give away to one of you ๐Ÿ™‚

This card was a lot of fun to make! I used the fin background stamp from Joy Clair and embossed it with Rita Barakat Mermaid Fin Powder. I added colorburst to the fins. For the image I used a sentiment from a Pink and Main set and stamped it with this Rita Barakat stamp. Here is the video:

I want to give this card away to one of you! All you need to do is tell me in the comments what your favorite part of summer is! I will randomly pick a winner and announce on April 1st.

Save Us Now!

Below is a recent post for the Joy Clair blog I wrote. The saying that stuck out to me was “Save Us Now”. I recently have been praying for things and God has been telling me no. I fire back to the Almighty the reason I have trust issues with Him is because He tells me no. He then will remind me that He is not a genie in a bottle. I can’t just rub him, make a wish and BOOM I get it. He is the sovereign God that knows everything and all things work for good. My prayer has shifted from asking what I want to just “Save me now!” I knew that when I read this passage in Matthew 21 and saw that sentiment it was from Him. I stamped it over and over again as I cried out in my spirit to Him. Sure enough, the next day I thanked God for something he said no to me about. Had he said yes it would have been a disaster.

One of the things I have set out to do this year is get into Bible Journaling. God gave me a passion for art and a creative mind. It only makes sense that He would speak to me through it. Once a week I sit down for a few hours and create in my Bible. I always turn on praise and worship songs when I do it and just let my spirit go. My pages are not where I want them to be from an artistic point of view, but that’s okay. It is not so much about creating beautiful art as much as it communicating with my maker. Here is a recent page I created:

Bible

IMG_4510

I really was drawn to the palm leaves and liked how it represented Jesus coming into town. I wanted to create a set of cards to mail out to remind my loved ones of the real reason for Easter.

Cards

IMG_4512

The cards are rather simple with a few special touches. The kraft card stock is a nice compliment to the green palm leaves and Rinea Foiled paper. I did quite a bit of embossing on these cards to amp up the simplicity of them.

Bible art stamps are not only great for your Bible, but for cards and other projects. A lot of times people really need positive encouragements and reminders that they are loved. There is not better way to show this than through a card made with God’s love.
