Magical and Mischievous

Whimsical magical and mischievous design is my favorite style! The Fairy tale club has a great kit that is all about the cute spooks and I had to get it. I was able to stretch the kit for several happy layouts and four cards. Here is what I created with this awesome kit!

The playful design is perfect for a group of teenage girls on Halloween. Using pop dots on the die cuts add interest too.

Tucking elements around the picture really makes the page pop!

It is important to use white space when there is a lot of pattern in the background to avoid being overwhelmed.

Subtitle are a great way to add an embellishment to a page.

Just because it is The Fairy Tale club does not mean it is just for girls.

The skeleton tags adds a cool factor perfect for my son’s page!

Matching the colors on the photos to a few elements on the page can pull the whole thing together.

Though this page looks perfectly busy, it really is simple and did not take long to create.

Layering and tucking elements behind the photo is all it took to create a fun whimsical page.

Most of the Fairy tale kits come with a printed transparency sheet. They are perfect for creating stunning bold cards!

This kit was a lot of fun to work with and create amazing cards and layouts. Halloween has never been so cute!

The Days are Long, but the Years are Short

I heard the quote “the days are long, but the years are short.” when my kids were under five. I have three children — all within four years of each other. When they were all little the days seemed to all run together. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to be a Mom more than anything. I had to have surgery to become one and I cherish every single minute of their lives.

It’s just when they were all in diapers my life was pretty much the same. It felt like I was a wet nurse and maid (didn’t I just clean that toilet? Wash that shirt?). I often dreamed of doing things that stimulated my mind by myself. The days truly were long and years short. Before I knew it my oldest was 18 and graduating from high school. I still think it was yesterday that I was bringing him home from the hospital. I remember changing his diapers, staying up all night, and napping when he napped. Now, he is an adult? Where did the time go?

Graduation Layouts

These pictures were bittersweet to scrap. I am so proud of the man he is turning into and truly enjoying being a parent to an adult. I decided on a Wonderland theme because that is what it feels like —Wonderland.

My son is 6’6 and towers over everyone in these pictures! In the above layout he is with his siblings, me, me and his dad, and his uncle.

If you have little ones at home, try to set aside time each day just to be with them. The laundry can wait and that toilet will always need to be cleaned. You will never be able to get your time back, so savor it :-).

So Sketchy!

It’s my favorite time of the month — HOP TIME! For this hop the Rita Barakat design team has teamed up with Finder’ Keepers and 3L Scrapbook Adhesive. Both companies sent us a wonderful selection of products. I used mine on my first paper crafting love — Scrapbooking. Make sure you check out the rest of the hop! The list is at the bottom 🙂

A Nod to the Past

Back in 2005 I had lost my passion for scrap booking. I went on a hunt to find something to spark my creativity and found Scrap Goods. It was a subscription kit in which each month a box full of supplies and a lesson on a new technique. There also was an amazing creative and caring online forum that was my first experience with social media. If it wasn’t for that club I truly don’t know where I would be today. Sadly, they went out of business when the economy started to dive. In it’s honor I created a kit with the new supplies sent by Finder’s Keepers and 3L Adhesive along with stuff from my stash.

What is In It

Here is a video of what is in my kit along with a technique tutorial and samples!

The Sketch Challenge

As promised in the video here is the sketch for you:

Interpret this any way you want. Look at it like a guide to help spark your creativity. Maybe you are not a scrap booker. Maybe you are a card or mixed media artist — use it in your art form.

This is what I did with it:

Make sure you upload your creation to Instagram tagging Betz Golden. I want to see it. If your account is public, I will share it too!

I Love Family Echo Park & Peachy Cheap Collaboration

It is a privilege and dream come true to be a guest designer for Peachy Cheap today! My first crafty purchase was made through them years ago. I would check my e-mail just to see what the daily special was long before Instagram was around. Needless to say, Peachy Cheap has a special place in my heart and I am so glad that they have stayed in business all of these years. A lot of small businesses in the craft industry do not withstand the test of time, but Peachy Cheap has!

Today’s deal is Echo Park‘s I Love Family line. I created 6 projects with it, that I am sharing with you today!

When I saw this gorgeous line I knew it would e perfect for home decor and a few scarp book layouts. Can you believe that I have a lot leftover?

Layouts

I created three layouts with I Love Family.

I could not pick which paper I wanted to use. The collection has 12 sheets that are double sided. The possibilities are endless! For this layout I used as much of the papers as I could get away with. Since there are so many patterns I opted to keep the layout flat with little embellishments.

I am a huge fan of white space and utilized it on this layout with a busy base page. The kit comes with a full 12 by 12 sticker sheet. I pop dotted the mason jar sticker by adding powder to the back of it which turned it into a glossy die cut. To add dimension to the page, I used pop dots on the photo and die cuts. distressing the edges and inking them also amped the interest level up for the layout.

The paper in the collection is just lovely and I wanted to use several pieces for this layout. I decided to create a background with three circles in various sizes and three mats off centered from one another. Three of the stickers were used in the traditional way. The flower in the pot I created into a die cut by powdering the back and pop dotting it on the bottom corner of the picture.

Home Decor Pieces

Upon receiving this collection I promptly made my way to Micheal’s and bought three wood pieces to decorate my home and office. The best part was the pieces I selected were each 99 cents!

I created this piece for my entry way this fall. Rubber Cement is my favorite adhesive for a strong long lasting bond. There are a few tricks to using it, but once you know them you are set! To create a permanent bond apply the rubber cement horizontal on the first substrate and vertical on the other. Let it dry completely before adhering. To create a temporary bond apply the rubber cement to one substrate and adhere it to the other wet.

I created this fun frame that can easily swap the picture out with it’s clipboard style for my husband’s office. He has recently lost over 100 pounds. For his birthday we took a hike and made it to the top. He could have never done that before. Our kids celebrated with him by hiking as well. This picture symbolizes that special day and amazing accomplishment he achieved. I created this for his office as a reminder.

My youngest is 14 and recently has taken up golf. He has surprised us with not only his talent, but his passion for it. This past summer he participated in the golf tournament that his great grandfather started over 50 years ago. As of right now he is the only great grandchild that plays in it. Tradition is strong in him and he was proud that he could carry on the legacy. I made this for his room.

May 2019 All Day Crop!

May 2019 I attended my first all day crop at The Paper Collage! I have not attended a crop in years and never a local one. At this point in my life getting away for a day is easier because my kids are older. I also am craving more adult contact! Add that to the fact that even though I am a scrapbooker at heart I do not do it as much as I like. I plan on attending these monthly because it is a good excuse to do what I love – scrap and talk!

Adventure is Out There

For spring break my daughter and I toured universities. This is a two page layout created with Close to My Heart kit. Though I am not a fan of premade pages I do like this one because I got the entire week on a two page spread! I struggle with two page spreads.

Sweet!

I did not discover these pictures until I was at the crop and had nothing on me that matched. So, I did what every crafter does and went into the store and bought coordinating product! The little red and black embellishments are found objects. The Paper Collage carries a lot of items not intended for paper crafting, but can be used for it.

Banquet 2019

I can’t believe this was the last Basketball Banquet because my son is graduating. The pictures are tiny, so I played on white space and utilized the bottom portion of the page.

Junior Prom

For these pages I used the Happily Ever After Sleeping Beauty Inspired kit. I thought they were just perfect with my daughter’s pink dress. I added a littler Blush Rinea Foiled Paper. Layering and pop dots are key to using these kits because they are beautifully busy.

Ironically I spent more time chatting than crafting and would not change a thing! I can not wait until June’s crop! The theme is mermaids!

Two Layouts Created from Stash

The title is a bit deceiving. These are created from my stash, but they all belong to Close To My Heart older lines. Years ago I got involved with Close To My Heart and have pulled out their products often. They are htimeless and easily adaptable to be on trend.

Make It Merry

My daughter and her best friend spent an afternoon taking Christmas pictures together while sipping on hot cocoa and snacking on fudge. They turned out amazing!

Creative Friends

One of my favorite things about attending Creativation is seeing all my friends and making new ones. Of course there are always a lot of photos. For this layout I wanted to get them all on one page. Thankfully I was successful! A few stamps was all it needed to complete the page.

After Thoughts

The title on Creative Friends could be better. I am not entirely happy with it. I was hoping for whimsical and got childish. However, I am so happy to be caught up on my scrapbook that I am leaving it. Sometimes you just have to do that. Put it in the album and move on.

Turn About Birthday Layout

Both of my boys have their birthday exactly a week a part. Naturally, we take similar pictures to document the day and I use the same sketch. This year I thought it would be fun to use the Concord and 9th Turnabout stamp set to create the layouts.

Differences

Though the sketch is the same, the color combo is not. For my oldest I chose earth tones. For my youngest I chose primary colors. The Turnabout stamp was fun to use and really helped the layouts come together fast. To learn how to turn check this out:
