10 Things Beginner Runners Need

Crafter Gone Runner

In August of 2019 I decided that I wanted to change up my exercise routine and start running. The reason I decided to run is quite simple –I was told I can’t. I have hip dysplasia and was over weight — not a good combo for running. Well, I am that person in which when I am told I can’t do something I set off to do it. That is exactly what I did! I started to run and documented it along with my health and wellness journey on my Instagrm account,  Scrappy Betz to hold myself accountable. A lot of people started following along and requested this article — What Beginner Runners Need.

The List!

Here are my ten tried and true must haves for running. This is not a sponsored post and everything (with the exception of the Sudio Ear Buds — which are the BEST) I purchased on my own. I stand behind this 110%!

Puma Sunglasses

I run in the sunny state of Arizona. Sunglasses are a staple in my car, wardrobe, purse and anywhere else I can stash them. I learned quickly that the glasses I wore everyday were not good for running. After researching different options I found these at Costco for $29! I love them and didn’t break the bank purchasing them.

A Cute Hat

A pony tail works and so does a thick sweat band, but I prefer a hat because it protects me from the sun and I don”t have to worry about my hair being cute. Tiny Trucker Co has my favorite hats!

A Little Motivation

I never realized how important self talk is when running. I love motivational quotes and images from this store. I am a closet comic book nerd, so I find a great deal of encouragement and joy when I see my magnet on my refrigerator everyday.

A Sassy Sweatshirt

I run in the morning and it is chilly, so a sweatshirt is a must. You could use any sweatshirt, but I love mine from SheShow because when I get to hot I tie it around my waste so the sass is on my butt! If you do order make sure you size one to two sizes larger than you think you wear. These run a little small.

A Sports Bra

The most terrifying running experience I have ever had was not on my run, but after trying to take off a sports bra! I thought I was going to strangle myself or rip a boob off. The ones that give me the best support and are easy to get off are by Under Armour. I take any padding out too! Otherwise it slips around and makes your boobs look weird.

A Good Pair of Running Shoes

This is probably the most important thing on the list — what you run in! I am embarrassed to say that when I first started running in August my shoes were over 15 years old. I was tripping and realized the soles were falling off the bottom. I went to my local run shop — Tortoise & Hare Footware . They watched me walk and scanned my foot for the perfect size and fit. I immediately started running better and my time improved. Plus, I was no longer sore. A good pair of running shoes is a must!

Socks!

I did not discover the importance of socks until a few weeks ago. Occasionally, I would get blisters. Come to find out it was my sock that were the culprit. When I was shopping for running shoes for my daughter, the sales rep told us about SwiftWick socks. The store had a sale of by three get one free. They are a bit pricey, but I bought four pairs. They are amazing! It is important that you get the right size for your foot because they have compression in them and that needs to be in the right spot.

Wireless Earbuds

Anyone else have a hard time finding good earbuds? Sound quality, comfort and range are important to me. I really like Sudio! With its wireless design, minimalistic charging case, and microphones on both sides, Tolv is the perfect match for any adventure. The sophisticated earbuds hold 7 hours of battery life while the portable case offers 4 additional charges for an astounding 6 days of standby life. Tolv introduces a new graphene driver for intense and clear sound quality. It also features the latest Bluetooth 5.0 technology compatible with IOS and Android, and up to 15 meters of range.

Athletic Bottoms

Nothing is more annoying than a crappy pair of athletic bottoms that itch an cause rashes. I have sensitive skin and most material that is skin tight leaves me a rashy itchy mess. I was watching the news one morning and RBX came on boasting about their amazing workout clothes at affordable prices. They were offering a great sale, so I ordered a pair. When they arrived I noticed they were not only buttery soft, but they fit great! Like my bum looks amazing in them. I promptly ordered more.

A Stamp Set

Last but not least, every crafty runner probably would love a runner stamp set. I really have no practical purpose for this other than I like it. I wanted it and I bought it. It is part of the Lovely Legs Line by Colorado Stamps.

Now Go Run!

I never imagined that I would end up enjoying running. I still am as slow as a turtle and have a long way to go, but I am loving every minute of it. My daughter has joined me in my 5K and my youngest is doing his first next month.

Until next time – Happy Crafting!
